Who we are
Our brewery is named after l’Ordre du Bon Temps (the Order of Good Cheer), created in 1606 by Samuel de Champlain, founding father of French Canada. Champlain needed a way to boost morale in his New World settlement after a horrible first winter where half his men died. So, each week he would name one man an Officer of the Order of Good Cheer and give him the week off his regular duties so he could stock up on fish, game and plan a party for the end of the week.
Good Cheer Brewing is a modern take on this historical way of building community and making it through long winter nights. We’re connecting with the past by re-creating historical beers and telling the stories behind them, with local businesses through collaborations and events, and with each other by coming together over a pint.
