The Calgary You Thought You Knew

Join us for a talk exploring the history of Calgary presented in a way you may not have heard of before.

Is Calgary a cowboy town? An oil town? Maybe its something else, or many things.

This is Calgary, from its early history as a fort right up to the present day as seen through the eyes of writers.

What do writers reveal about Calgary’s history and its identity? Join Shaun Hunter, local historian and author of Calgary through the Eyes of Writers, for a lively look at the city as writers have captured it on the page.

This talk is being delivered by the Historical Society of Alberta. This 119-year old organization is dedicated to preserving our shared past. They had their budget eliminated by the Alberta Government this year and we are asking that those attending the talk please consider a donation of between $2 and $25 to help support their work ($25 gets you a tax receipt).
